Gary Pearson is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan. He received his MFA from the University of Saskatchewan, SK and his BFA from the University of Victoria. He is an interdisciplinary artist who works primarily in painting and video, and who has been exhibiting internationally since 1983. His work in video includes experimental and documentary genres, and in 2002 he wrote and directed a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) sponsored video documentary on a rural health care project in Northern Ghana. Gary Pearson is also an author and he has written for exhibition catalogues and is a contributing art reviewer for several journals including Border Crossings and Sculpture Magazine. He is the recipient of numerous awards such as the International Studio Award at PS.1/MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) New York, and the Vancouver Institute of Visual Arts (VIVA) award.
