Anda Kubis

Drenched in traditional painting techniques and laced with contemporary ideas, Kubis' paintings continue a dialogue with colour and space that draws on ideas from Helen Frankenthaller, are mediated through the lens of Gerhard Richter and somehow tangled in the atmospherics of William Turner. Her paintings present a moment that resides somewhere between the real and the artificial - like the impression of light seen through closed eyelids. Each painting is an unexpected collision of colour and a serendipitous blurring and subversion of substance. Intoxicating and simultaneously ambiguous, they teeter on the edge of recognition - a hypnogogic moment in technicolour.
